Area:European Children's Online Opportunities, Risks and Safety with emphasis on Cyprus.
Duties included: Collecting & analysing data / writing papers for international conferences and journals / collaborating with a group of researchers / attending European meeting of the “EU Kids Online” multinational research network which seeks to enhance knowledge regarding European children's online opportunities, risks and safety.

Consultant at C.A. EVOLVIT LTD (IT Research, Consulting & Product Development Company).

Duties included: Consulting on gambling related product development (e.g. online portal) with my main contribution focussing on how to engage the player is such contexts / running usability tests / launching survey type research to explore the gambling experience from the players’ perspective / consulting on the design of educational software.

Research at classroom level (UK & Cyprus schools)

involving child participants using a computer game promoting prediction error. The study aimed to explore the links between positive prediction error and learning within a computer based gaming context.

Duties included: Management, guidance and monitoring of the research process / designing learning materials / lead designer of the different versions of the computer games used / collaboration with the programming and software development teams / conducting usability and pilot tests / collecting and analysing data / project management / leading the research group / conducting literature review on computer games and learning / writing grant proposals and research papers / presenting at conferences.

Research at classroom level (UK schools)

involving child participants using an uncertainty involving game that was not computer based. The study aimed at constructing pedagogical concepts across education and neuroscience for teaching through immersive gaming.

Duties included:Visits to UK schools / liaison with parents, teachers and head teachers for access in the school / negotiation with teachers and head teachers for the development of the game’s learning content / launching the research / qualitative and quantitative data collection and data analysis / dissemination of the results through presentations, conferences, seminars, focus groups, websites / involvement in the paper writing process.

2007 – 2010

fMRI (functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging) research

with adult participants on the neural mechanisms of learning from competitors.

Duties included: Collaboration with academics and researchers from other departments and other educational institutions worldwide / recruitment of participants / qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis / dissemination of the results through presentations, conferences, seminars, focus groups, websites / involvement in the paper writing process for international research journals / etc.

Research in the lab with physiological measurements.

The study was conducted with both adults and children and aimed to investigate the link between reward uncertainty and our physiological responses such as EDA (Electro Dermal Activity).

Duties included: Collaboration with researchers from other departments and educational institutions such as Computer Science, Neuroscience and Psychology / management, guidance and monitoring of the research process / designing learning materials / designing the different versions of the computer games used / collaboration with the programming and software development teams / conducting usability and pilot tests / recruiting participants / collecting and analysing data / project management / leading the research group / conducting literature review on computer games & learning and on the Psychology and Neuroscience of learning / writing grant proposals and research papers / presenting at conferences.
